Why Do People Love Coffee So Much?
People love coffee for a few different reasons. Some coffee lovers truly enjoy the taste of coffee, and enjoy how beans from different regions can have a different flavor. They might also enjoy playing with different types of coffee machines to enjoy coffee served in numerous ways.
Some people love coffee for the way it makes them feel. Coffee hits the bloodstream quickly, so those effects such as focus and alertness can be felt soon after it’s consumed.
Some also love coffee because of the routine of drinking coffee feeling so familiar. It could be enjoyed in the 10 minutes they get to just sit and relax before getting ready for work, or enjoyed after dinner to help wind down after a hectic day.
Why Are People So Proud Of Their Love Of Coffee?
Coffee is a very innocent thing to love, so long as it doesn’t contribute to unhealthy habits. Because coffee can bring someone so much joy and helps them feel refreshed and awake, they feel as though it’s an integral part of their day.
Furthermore, coffee is a vessel that helps people connect with each other, through sitting with a friend at a coffee shop, or having family sit together at the dinner table enjoying their after-dinner mug.
This has led to a variety of nicknames and slang terms being created to describe all types of lovers of coffee.
Coffee Addict
Coffee can actually be an addicting beverage, as caffeine is considered a drug. This is because caffeine can alter a person’s nervous system and state of mind, and there is a withdrawal process to overcome when you quit consuming caffeine.
People who have ever tried to cut down on coffee or tried to stop drinking coffee altogether know the unpleasant symptoms that will come about, such as headaches, fatigue, and restlessness.
That being said, being called a coffee addict isn’t meant in a judgemental way; it is just simply what someone who loves their coffee is called.
Coffeeholic
Similar to a coffee addict, you might be called a coffeeholic if you cannot go without your cup in the morning, or drink multiple cups a day. This is not meant to mock someone with a serious addiction issue, but is a lighthearted term that is meant to be silly.
Cafephile
A cafephile is another term for someone who really enjoys the taste of coffee and loves everything coffee related. This might be someone who is knowledgeable on different types of coffee, or someone who enjoys trying different coffee-based beverages.
Coffee Snob
You might be called a coffee snob if you’re the person who blurts out random facts about the origins of coffee or knows the specific notes and flavors within a coffee bean from a certain region.
This name is also used to describe a person who either enjoys drinking coffee that has been sitting in the pot all day, or someone who will only drink locally sourced coffee or coffee from a small shop.
Coffee-Head
A coffee-head is similar to a coffee snob, where they are so interested in all things coffee that they would be considered one of its biggest fans. It’s similar to a sneakerhead, but for coffee.
This person might know a lot about coffee or has tried every cup of coffee in their general vicinity.
Coffee Fanatic
A coffee fanatic is someone who has a deep and intrinsic love of coffee. While fanatic might have a certain connotation, calling someone a coffee fanatic usually has a lighthearted intention behind it to innocently poke fun at someone’s love of coffee.
Coffee Aficionado
A coffee aficionado is someone who doesn’t just love the taste of coffee, but knows a lot of information about making coffee. They also know where coffee beans are sourced from, and know how to describe a cup of coffee like an expert.
Caffiend
This is a combination of two words, caffeine and fiend, which is a fun play on words to describe someone who has an intense love of coffee. This word can be used to describe someone who is always on the hunt for a cup of coffee.
Coffee Slave
A coffee slave is someone who cannot function without consuming a cup of coffee. This might also be a name for someone who often goes on coffee runs, or likes to bring people coffee.
Coffee Enthusiast
A coffee enthusiast is someone who enjoys learning all about coffee, especially coffee they can find in their local community or specialty shops. They will usually be able to give you some really great recommendations for where to get a cup of coffee based on your specific preferences.
Coffee Sommelier
You will most likely only hear someone refer to themselves as a coffee sommelier, and chances are, they aren’t actually one. But you might be surprised to learn that there is actually a certification you can get to be considered a coffee sommelier of sorts.
There is a certification called a Q Grader, and you must learn a lot about coffee in order to get this certification. Some people who have studied for a Q Grader has said it’s much more difficult than you might assume.
Javaphile
A javaphile is pretty much the same thing as a cafephile; someone with a deep love of coffee. However, this is more of a slang term for coffee lovers.
